SEAToday.com, San Diego - Winston, a western lowland gorilla at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in the US, has reportedly passed away at the age of 52. After experiencing declining health for seven years, the difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize Winston to prevent further suffering. Winston lived a long and fulfilling life, far exceeding the average lifespan of a male gorilla in human care, which is around 33 years old.

Winston, who is believed to be one of the oldest male gorillas in the world, battled several age-related conditions, including heart disease, degenerative joint disease, and kidney disease, receiving veterinary treatment for these throughout his later years. This was announced by the zoo on social media Instagram (@sdzsafaripark) on Sunday (7/14).
