SEAToday.com, Saudi Arabia - Amid the increasing number of Umrah pilgrims during the holy month of Ramadan, Saudi Arabia has opened a new facility for Umrah pilgrims to perform Tawaf using golf carts at the Grand Mosque.
Officials said the golf cart will assist around 6,000 Umrah pilgrims in one hour while performing Tawaf on the roof (circular bridge) at the Grand Mosque. The plan to utilize golf carts for Tawaf has actually been out since 2014, to help pilgrims with special needs and elderly pilgrims who want to perform Tawaf and Sai with ease.
Previously, the government of Saudi Arabia had expanded the mataf area in the Grand Mosque, which was named The Saudi Riwaq. The mataf expansion consists of four floors and can accommodate up to 287,000 pilgrims or 107,000 pilgrims per hour.
