SEAToday.com, Konawe - President Joko Widodo officially inaugurated the Ameroro Dam in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, on Tuesday (5/14). President Jokowi emphasized the crucial role of dams in preventing water crises, a growing concern worldwide.

"We are witnessing water crises emerging in several countries, making access to water increasingly challenging. Water will become an essential element for our survival in the future. Therefore, we must not allow water to flow freely into the sea without proper utilization," stated President Jokowi.

Constructed in 2020 and completed in late 2023, the Ameroro Dam has a storage capacity of 88 million cubic meters and a reservoir area spanning 398 hectares.

"This dam's immense size will effectively mitigate floods that previously plagued the Konawe region," remarked the President.

In conjunction with the Ameroro Dam's inauguration, President Jokowi also launched the development of infrastructure for the National Strategic Tourism Area (KSPN) in Wakatobi Regency. It is anticipated that the inauguration of the dam and KSPN will foster Indonesia's tourism industry, driving the national economy.

"As for the strategic tourism area in Wakatobi, we have undertaken various improvements, including the town square, Puncak Oyamba, and Sumbuda. These enhancements are expected to attract more tourists to Wakatobi Regency," expressed President Jokowi.
