SEAToday.com, Oman - The six member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) announced a plan for a unified tourist visa. The statement was made by the President of the current GCC session, Sayyed Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, during the 40th meeting of the Interior Ministers in Oman.
The six countries that are part of the GCC are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Uni Arab Emirates.
GCC Secretary General Jassim Al Budaiwi explained that the visa system, which is similar to the Schengen visa, is anticipated to be operational between 2024 and 2025 to foster a more integrated travel experience across the six nations. The system is also expected to have a positive impact on the economic and tourism sectors of the region for its offer of a seamless travel experience for both residents and tourists.
