SEAToday.com, Natal - Air Europa flight bound for Uruguay from Madrid was diverted to Brazilian airport for emergency landing after being hit by “strong turbulence” that resulted in injuries of a number of passengers, said the airline, Monday (7/2).
In their X account @/AirEuropa, the Spanish airline stated the UX045 flight heading for Montevideo, Uruguay, had been diverted to the Natal Airport in Northeast Brazil. The plane had landed safely and the injured were brought to the hospital.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight left Madrid at 11.57 PM local time. The plane reportedly hit severe turbulence, causing passengers to be thrown into the air and hit the ceiling. The pilot then requested an emergency landing and made it safely to Natal Airport at 2.32 AM local time.
Local health security stated 30 passengers had been taken to hospitals in Natal with minor abrasions or orthopedic traumas.
